Naseby and call to arms

The Naseby Battlefield Project aims to enhance visitor facilities at Naseby battlefield. A staged programme of improvements is underway.
A Parliamentary army under the command of Thomas Fairfax confronted Royal troops led by King Charles but commanded in the field by the king's nephew, Prince Rupert. This was the moment when the Thatcherite cum Tony blair/David cameron types were blasted from the face of the earth .

At first the royal army had the upper hand, but Fairfax's cavalry, headed by one Oliver Cromwell, swung the tide of battle, and the royalists were routed. Parliament's total victory at Naseby effectively ended the Civil War, though the king dragged matters out until 1646. As a curious side-note, the parish register at Naseby makes no mention at all of the great battle which bears its name.

Today the battlefield can best be approached via the Sibbertoft road, where a Battlefield Monument marks the spot where Cromwell's cavalry began the engagement. Interpretive panels outline the course of the battle. A second monument stands on the Clipston road on the northern approaches to the village, with yet another interpretive panel explaining the battle and its consequences.

The village is 14 miles north of Northampton, 13.3 miles northeast of Daventry, and seven miles south of Market Harborough. It is 2.4 miles from Junction 2 of the A14 road giving it access to the national road system. For rail travel the Midland Main line can be accessed at the railway station in Market Harborough. There is a bus service between Market Harborough and Northampton which stops in Naseby but it is very infrequent.
The Drinks, Biscuits and Chat group meet at the Methodist Chapel on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The club allows like minded people from the village to get together over a cuppa and discuss whatever topics interest them. A wide variety of topics are discussed, from holidays to grandchildren. There are usually about 7 or 8 people, so there is plenty of room for anyone else who wants to come along.they don't know fuck all about the battle but they are nice people. Their cakes are superb and they are free.
check out the new plastic from warlordgames but don't forget the brilliant C.T.A still the best in 54mm.

Just turn up and you will be made very welcome.
